Made with love in St. George’s.

Bermudian artist Anne grew up near the fells of Northern England, but has lived in St. George’s, Bermuda, for most of her life.  Anne studied art as a teenager at Bermuda College and then Art, History and English Literature at S. Martin’s College (University of Cumbria) UK.

Art took a back seat for a few years, but when Anne’s three children came along, it wasn’t long before the whole family got involved in making art.  The children (now mostly grown) and spouse constantly bring home fresh ideas, searching local waters for inspiration. The children are now artists in their own right.

Anne paints in the spaces between a busy career as an educator at a local school. In her spare time, she enjoys running and swimming very long distances.

Inspiration for Art by Anne Kermode’s current style of dot paintings came from Australian Indigenous art. A family member visited the outback and returned with original art that captivated the artist.  After studying the motifs and styles from “down under”, Anne became interested in the relationship between math and art, on a quest to create precise, symmetrical paintings one dot at a time.

After initially applying paint with her hands, Anne identified the tools that would allow greater precision, adding layer upon layer of contrasting hues. She began to apply Bermuda’s vibrant colours and remarkable creatures to create paintings which encompass pattern, geometry, colour and the natural world.

Anne paints on a variety of surfaces including canvas, wood, stone, seeds and beans. Each piece of art is hand painted, with love, in St. George’s.
